Capabilities

Product strategy, systems design, prototyping, implementation.

Atomac is an independent product exploring how operational governance can be made legible before it is made automatic.

Mandate

Defined the product thesis, designed the core system, and prove it by building working software.

Core constraint

Governance tools fail when they automate before they earn trust.

Clear navigation was critical

4,000+

Program slides, no global search

Students lived in one place: Content, moving constantly between 4,000+ slides across units and lectures. With no global search, the navigation pattern had to do the entire job of telling a student where they were and what came next.

The structural question was how lectures should relate to their parent units in the nav. It became the most contested design decision in the platform.

Building changed the product

I started with a strong concept, but building Atomac in code exposed the questions that sketches and prototypes couldn't answer. Every workflow had to make sense, every interaction had to earn its place, and every feature had to solve a real problem. With each iteration, the product became simpler and more focused.

The trade-off

There were plenty of ideas I could have added, but I found myself removing more than I introduced. Narrowing the scope made the core experience clearer and helped me focus on the problems that mattered most.

What I learned

The biggest insights came from building, not designing. Implementation clarified the architecture, strengthened the interaction model, and sharpened the product's positioning. By the end of the process, Atomac wasn't just more polished. It was a much clearer expression of the original idea.

Building reduced uncertainty about sequencing.

We have multiple design systems in use, and they're all slightly different.
